Years ago, a friend asked me for a fifty-dollar racquet. I recommended the forgiving Wilson Ultra, then admitted I owned Federer's Pro Staff because I thought it might make me play like him. It did not. The racquet had the rude habit of being exactly what it said it was. The Ultra 100 V5 is the grown-up version of that original advice: performance equipment with useful depth, quick handling, and room for a normal rally. Buy the racquet for the player you are on Tuesday. Federer has already been taken.

The standard Ultra 100 uses a 100-inch head, 300-gram frame, 16x19 pattern, and dual-taper power beam. The 99 Pro moves to 99 inches, 305 grams, 16x18, and a thinner Pro Labs-style geometry. The names sit together. The racquets should not be bought interchangeably.

From the baseline

The Ultra's basic promise is useful depth without requiring a heroic swing. V5 keeps the 300-gram, 100-inch formula while adding more pocketing, which helps the power feel less like a surprise meeting.

On serve

Reviewers consistently found useful pace and spin, especially on flatter first serves. The tradeoff is that raw speed arrives more easily than pinpoint placement.

On return and at net

Quick handling and a solid 300-gram platform make blocked returns and direct volleys the natural language. It is happier putting the ball away than composing a drop-volley sonnet.

When contact wanders

The 100-inch head and Crush Zone grommets add useful margin, but multiple testers still noticed a firmer response or a sharper drop outside the sweet spot. Forgiving is not the same as invisible.
