My name is Joshua. In 2008, I started taking the bus to Midtown Tennis Club in Chicago once a week for lessons. My girlfriend had played in high school. I wanted to learn enough that we could play together.
We have played at parks across the country ever since. On Labor Day in 2014, we got engaged at the Venetian Tennis Club. I chose it for the grass court. I grew up in a small town watching Breakfast at Wimbledon, and grass-court tennis still felt like a distant, almost mythical version of the game.
Tennis gave us a reason to spend time together, then a reason to explore new places, and eventually a place to begin the rest of our lives. My perspective is not that of a former professional or lifelong country-club player. It comes from nearly two decades of lessons, public courts, recreational matches, equipment decisions, and trying to fit tennis into an ordinary adult life. That is who Park Tennis is built to help.
