THE PARK TENNIS TAKE

The useful truth, in plain English.

Original editorial judgment · evidence below

Buying a first serious racquet has a way of becoming a vocabulary test. Unstrung weight. Swingweight. Polyester. Tension. You wanted to play Tuesday. The EVO Drive Gen2 arrives strung, easy to move, and roomy enough for the forehand you meant to hit. It is not the Pure Drive you saw on television. Good. One less setup decision, one more reason to stop borrowing somebody else's backup. You are buying court time, not an entrance exam.

BEST FOR

Beginners moving into graphite, improving players, and returners who want accessible depth, comfort, and a racquet that arrives ready to hit.

SKIP IF

You already face heavy pace, want the stability of a 300-gram frame, or need a precise custom string setup from day one.

BEFORE YOU BUY

EVO Drive is the lineup. Gen2 is the generation. This page is the standard strung model: 102 square inches, 270 grams unstrung, and a 16x19 pattern. Lite is larger and lighter. Tour keeps the 102-inch head but adds 15 grams.

YOU ARE HERE

EVO Drive

102 sq in · 270 g unstrung · 16x19 · 27 in · strung

The middle of the current lineup. More racquet than the Lite, less mass to organize than the Tour, and strings already installed.

LIGHTER + ROOMIER

EVO Drive Lite Gen2 Strung

104 sq in · 255 g · 16x17 · 27 in

More head size and less weight for a junior moving up or an adult who wants maximum help getting the racquet around.

MORE MASS

EVO Drive Tour Gen2 Strung

102 sq in · 285 g · 16x19 · 27 in

The same head size and pattern with 15 more grams for a more settled response against pace.

BEFORE YOU BUY

The old standard looks like the new Lite on paper.

The previous EVO Drive was 104 square inches with a 16x17 pattern. The current standard Gen2 is 102 with 16x19. The current Lite is 104 with 16x17. Product code 102545 identifies the U.S. strung standard on this page.

OFFICIAL SPECS + CURRENT-LINEUP DATA + RETAILER INTERPRETATION

From the baseline

The 102-inch head, 16x19 pattern, thick variable beam, and 270-gram frame point toward easy depth and a forgiving rally ball without requiring a long, fast swing.

On serve

The low static weight should make the frame easy to accelerate. Players looking for maximum ball weight will find more mass in the Tour or a full performance frame.

On return and at net

Quick handling is the obvious advantage in rushed exchanges. The tradeoff is less mass behind the racquet when the incoming ball gets heavy.

When contact wanders

The 102-inch face gives ordinary contact a little more room. Air Handle Touch is designed to reduce vibration reaching the hand, but it does not turn a mishit into the middle.

THE RACQUET GENOME

Its personality, without the fake precision.

These bands combine specifications, professional reviews and documented player experience. They will get sharper as the evidence does.

THE NUMBERS, TRANSLATED

Specs are only useful once somebody tells you what they mean.

HEAD SIZE

102 sq in

A little more room than the 100-inch performance standard. Helpful without moving all the way to the 104-inch Lite.

UNSTRUNG WEIGHT

270 g / 9.5 oz unstrung

Light enough to organize quickly. The tradeoff appears when faster incoming balls ask the frame for more mass and stability.

STRING PATTERN

16x19

The familiar versatile pattern. Easier spin and launch than a dense bed, with more structure than the old standard EVO Drive's 16x17 layout.

FAMILY POSITION

The standard Gen2 route

More substantial than the Lite and easier to move than the Tour. It is the sensible middle if neither extreme is solving a specific problem.

BALANCE

325 mm +/- 7 mm unstrung

The listed balance and low weight favor quick preparation. The exact finished balance can vary with the factory stringbed.

LENGTH

27 in

Standard adult length. No extra reach or timing adjustment is hiding in the name.

STRINGS + SETUP

It already has strings. Use them.

The U.S. model arrives strung, so the sensible first setup is the one already installed. Play it before turning the racquet purchase into a second shopping project.

THE WIDER TENNIS CONVERSATION

The available evidence is consistent: this is a light, comfortable, ready-to-play power racquet for someone improving their game.

AGREE

THE CONSENSUS

Babolat's exact page, current adult catalog, current family pages, and exact-model retailer descriptions agree on the core identity, easy movement, accessible depth, and comfort-first handle technology.

THE LIMIT

The model is current. The independent playtest record is not deep yet.

The Genome is primarily specification-led. There is not enough exact-model independent playtest evidence to present fine-grained feel or stability judgments as settled fact.

THE OPEN QUESTION

Will 270 grams still feel substantial as the game speeds up?

For many improving and returning players, the easy handling is the point. Players regularly absorbing heavier pace may eventually prefer the 285-gram Tour or a full performance racquet.
