WHY PARK TENNIS CHOSE IT

Most tennis media starts with the score. Racquet starts with everything the score leaves out: art, clothes, travel, architecture, obsession, and the strange people who build lives around the game. That shift helped prove tennis culture deserved serious writing and beautiful print. Park Tennis exists partly because Racquet opened that door. We chose it even as we keep pushing the conversation toward a more accessible court.

Journalists Caitlin Thompson and David Shaftel founded Racquet in New York in 2016 as a print-first answer to conventional tennis coverage. The first issue promised to celebrate the art, ideas, style, and culture around the game, while recovering some of the swagger tennis carried during the boom years of the 1970s and '80s.

Racquet has since grown beyond the magazine into digital publishing, events, collaborations, commerce, and travel. The formats have expanded, but the central argument remains intact: tennis becomes more interesting when the people, places, images, and ideas around the court are treated as part of the sport rather than decoration.
